Hand Rolled Paper Beads
The beads are made of colorfully dyed paper, created by wrapping long, thin strips of paper around a bamboo strip. The paper used for dyeing is coffee filters. Coffee filters are convenient and easy to dye because of their good soaking properties, and their semi-circular shape is just right for this craft. The overlapping gradation of colors form beautiful, delicate beads.
There are several alternative paper types and coloring methods. It would be fun to use newspaper or recycled paper, or to use pens or crayons to color on your own paper without dyeing. You can also change the size and shape. Wrapping them around triangular paper makes them tapered beads, while wrapping them around square paper makes them tubular beads.
Paper beads have an expression in the color and shape of each individual bead, which is unique to handmade beads. Just by threading them onto a string, they become a special necklace that is one-of-a-kind.

Materials
– Coffee filter *I prefer unbleached
– Ink *watercolor, colored ink, etc.
– Thin sticks *bamboo strip, bamboo skewer etc.
– Glue
Instructions for making
Step 1. Dye Coffee Filter
Fold a coffee filter and soak it lightly in water. Then, dip the filter into the ink of your choice. Enjoy the gradation like wet in wet (wet paint or water is added on top of wet paint on the paper). Spread the dyed paper out to dry.
Step 2. Cut the Dyed Paper
Cut the completely dry paper radially to form an elongated triangle. Varying the size of the cut by 1/2, 1/4, or 1/8 will make a difference in the finished length.
Step 3. Roll a Piece of Paper
Roll the cut paper into a circle as if wrapping it around a bamboo stick. Finally, glue the edges of the paper. The paper beads are completed when removed from the bamboo stick.
About Size
Paper beads are cut and rolled into sizes 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2, in order from the smallest bead to the largest. The length of the beads varies depending on the size of the paper. The color and gradation of the beads are also different for each piece.
Make a Necklace
Thread the beads and make a necklace. We used a needle and thread, but you can use anything as long as it goes through the bead holes. You can make two strands to make a gorgeous necklace.

色とりどりに染めた紙でつくるビーズ。細長く切った紙をくるくると竹ひごに巻き付けてつくります。染色に使う紙はコーヒーフィルター。コーヒーフィルターは手軽で、浸水性の良さからとても染めやすく、その半円状がこのクラフトにちょうどいい形です。偶然に重なる色のグラデーションが、繊細なビーズを美しく彩ります。
紙の種類や彩色方法に幾つかのオプションがあります。新聞紙やリサイクルペーパーを使ったり、染色をせずに手持ちの紙にペンやクレヨンで色を塗るのも楽しいと思います。また、大きさや形を変えても。三角の紙に巻き付けると、先細りのビーズに、四角の紙を巻き付けると、筒状のビーズになります。

用意するもの

つくりかた
Step 1. コーヒーフィルターを染める
コーヒーフィルターを折って軽く水に浸します。そして好きなインクに浸します。にじみ絵のようにグラデーションを楽しみましょう。染めた紙は広げて乾かします。
Step 2. 染めた紙を切る
完全に乾いた紙を、細長い三角形になるように放射状にカットします。1/2, 1/4, 1/8とサイズを変えると仕上がりの長さに差が出ます。
Step 3. 紙を巻く
カットした紙を竹ひごに巻き付けるように丸めていきます。最後に紙の端に糊をつけます。竹ひごから外したら紙のビーズの完成です。
サイズについて
小さいビーズから順に、1/8、1/4, 1/2のサイズに紙を切って巻いたものです。紙の大きさによってビーズの長さが変わります。色やグラデーションの出方もひとつひとつ違います。
ネックレスをつくる
糸を通してネックレスにしてみましょう。私たちは針と糸を使いましたが、ビーズの穴に通るなら、どんなものでも大丈夫です。二連にして豪華にしてもいいですね。
